Building Bright Futures

At Koorana, we help create bright futures for children, all abilities.

There is a severe lack of preschool places for children in New South Wales. Only 7% of early childhood education enrolments are children with a disability and in southwestern Sydney, only 26% of children under 4 attend early learning. Many families have been hit hard by cost-of-living pressures, and preschool is out of reach.

Our new Bass Hill Preschool will address this lack of places in a community in need and offer a reserved number of places for children of all abilities. In response to cost-of-living pressures our preschool will be free or low cost to ensure it is affordable for families in need.

Koorana operates two inclusive Preschools in Lakemba and Roselands. Our third Preschool in Bass Hill is under construction. While we have received some government funding towards the project, there is still a significant shortfall.

In the coming months we need to work on interior fit-out, electrical and plumbing, buy essential play equipment for children with sensory needs, build ramps and decking, and finish our all abilities playground and sensory garden.

We believe that all children, of all abilities, deserve the best start in life.

Early childhood education is crucial in the first five years of life, when 90% of a child’s brain is developing. A lack of early intervention can have a profound impact on a child’s future.

Children in this community need every opportunity to learn, grow and thrive, and their parents need support to achieve this.

Our new Bass Hill Preschool will support 100 children per week, with 25 places reserved for children with developmental delays, differences, or disabilities.
