History

Koorana Child & Family Services has been devoted to fulfilling the dreams of our children in the community for over 43 years.

Koorana’s History

The roots of Koorana began in late 1976, when a group of local women identified the need for a formal centre as a place to focus on playgroup activities. This group of inspired women approached the federal government for funding to set up a preschool and community centre. Once funding was secured, they approached Canterbury Council and with their federal funding, they purchased a house in Belmore, which became the new centre.

In 1987, after 10 years of successful operation and in close collaboration with Canterbury Council, the Canterbury Municipal Preschool Community Centre was formed. Later that year, the centre became an Incorporated Association and was renamed Koorana Child and Family Centre Inc.

In 2018 Koorana again showed our ability to look to the future by adapting and changing from an Incorporated Association to a Company Limited by Guarantee.

Koorana has consistently grown from strength to strength, by constantly expanding and adjusting our range of services and programs to the changing needs of our local communities.

We will continue to build a robust and influential social purpose business that is responsive to individual and community needs, while driving sector innovation, and remaining sustainable and resilient.

Koorana has a deep commitment to nurture individual potential.
