Early Childhood Teacher – 12 Month Max Term Contract

We have a fantastic opportunity for a University qualified, experienced, skilled and passionate Early Childhood Teacher to join Koorana as part of our Start Strong Pathways Program team.

The aim of the Start Strong Pathways Program is to provide educational support for very young children prior to preschool enrolment, strengthen the engagement of children within these services, and help promote the importance of early childhood education to parents.  A particular focus of the program is engaging vulnerable community groups through supported playgroups and individual support in the Canterbury LGA where there is limited access to early childhood education.

The Start Strong Pathways Program will work closely with Koorana’s other services including Preschools, Supported Playgroups and Disability Services funded through the NDIS to provide a high level of integrated support to the most vulnerable children and families in the community. 

 The Early Childhood Teacher will work closely with the Start Strong Pathways Family Support Worker to provide short term playgroups in partnership with Koorana playgroup staff and other community organisations, information and resources to support parents understanding of how children learn and the importance of early childhood education and one to one support to facilitate contact and linkages to preschools and/or other services.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • A theoretical understanding of child development and proven understanding of evidence-based practice in early childhood
  • Experience in the promotion of community development and group work
  • A theoretical understanding of disabilities, experience working with children with high support learning needs within an early childhood setting
  • Knowledge of National Regulations and Laws and disability standards, and experience in their practical application
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritise, plan ahead, anticipate risks and problem solve
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally diverse community.
  • Current Driver’s license and access to a comprehensively insured motor vehicle to use for work purposes
  • To be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved medical contraindication certificate. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status if successful.
