specific preschool class (Due to start in Feb 2009)
Located at Phillip Street Pre-school, 22 Phillip
Street, Roselands
A 12 month, intensive autism specific preschool class for 8 children who
will attend two days per week (Thursdays and Fridays) in a small group
setting. This package also includes initial comprehensive assessment by
a multi-disciplinary team, quarterly home visits from the multi-disciplinary
team, general family support, Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) incorporating
an individual education plan (IEP), school transition support and parent
support and training. Enrolment is for a school year Cost-$6,000 ($150
per week).
Individual
home visiting program (Due to start in Feb 2009)
Option 1.- A one year, home visiting program
that is autism specific suitable for children who may be enrolled in another
early childhood setting. It includes initial assessment by a multi-disciplinary
team, regular liaison, resource and support to centre based staff,
home and/or centre based visits, an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP)
incorporating an individual education plan (IEP), OT designed sensory
kit, school transition support and parent support and training. Cost-$5,000
p.a
Option 2.- 10 Week block of home based individual therapy –Speech
and or O.T. Cost-$1,600 for 10 weeks.
Play
Time Chat Time
The program offers a series of five sessions,
each two hours in length. The first hour of each session is playgroup
style which involves children, parents and staff working together in a
play based atmosphere. During the second hour childcare is provided so
that the parents can be an involved in an information and discussion session.
Topics for discussion include some of the following: What is an ASD; goal
setting; helping children feel calm and secure; communication; positive
behaviour support etc. This program is an ideal introduction to formal
intervention. Cost-$300.
Behaviour
Support Programs
A range of behavior support sessions including individually
tailored programs such as the ‘Triple P’ Stepping Stones program
will be available for families whose children are displaying difficult
behaviours. A 10 week program incorporates group training and follow up
with supportive "in home" visits Cost-$1,500.

Koorana offers a range of service options to families
that can be packaged to suit individual family needs. Please note that
the provision of group programs is dependent upon demand.

Existing
Programs that also support children with Autism
Preschool Prep
- A basic skills program for children with moderate to high support needs:
including autism. This small group of around 8 children attend 3 days
a week (Monday-Wednesday), this is a structured program designed to support
children’s transition into larger inclusive mainstream settings such
as preschool. Although this program successfully supports children with
an ASD, it is not autism specific. N.B As this is an existing Koorana
program the costs for the running of this group are heavily subsidized
through other funding hence the cost is less than other services offered.
Cost-$2,500
Preschool Inclusion Support - There are supported places within Koorana’s 2 preschools. A multi disciplinary team works collaboratively with the preschool teachers to develop individual programs for each child to facilitate learning within the context of an inclusive environment. Enrolment into a supported preschool place is limited to 2 days a week Cost-$2,300.
N.B-For Children who are not able to access the Helping Children with Autism Package there is an existing Home Based Program available through other funding sources.
